Eagle Butte is the largest city on the Cheyenne River Reservation, a sovereign nation within the state of South Dakota. The city is home to the tribal headquarters of the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation. Since the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine early in the year, tribal leaders and members have been navigating differing opinions about the efficacy, safety, and trustworthiness of the vaccine. As of the first week of March, roughly 4,000 of the estimated 10,000-12,000 tribal members living on the reservation had received one or both doses of the vaccine. March 11, 2021.
