Richard G. Sneed, then Principal Chief of the EBCI, on the athletic field at Cherokee Central Schools, where he taught vocational education before entering politics. Sneed also worked as a pastor in Cherokee for 14 years. In a statement in the One Feather newspaper, Sneed said acquiring cultural and historic lands is part of a plan to “create a cultural corridor that preserves and protects historic sites for the Eastern Band,” a process that “will continue until all of our lands that are important to us are protected and preserved.” September 22, 2020.
