Danny Grassrope and Joseph White Eyes are a young Lakota couple who divide their time between the Lower Brule and Cheyenne River reservations in South Dakota. Their story is vital in a landscape lacking queer love stories about Native couples. Danny and Joe come from big families in small communities and traditional Lakota culture has historically treated Two Spirit people as regular members of the community, not marginalized or stigmatized. “Danny + Joe” is a story about acceptance, kinship and the role of traditional customs in a contemporary Lakota community.
