Lucas and Veronica Bratvold stand at the edge of Red Lake at a place called “Obaashiing,” or “where the wind blows.” The Bratvolds are Ojibwe and members of Red Lake Nation. Mrs. Bratvold works with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on the Red Lake Indian reservation in northern Minnesota. She educates the community about nutrition through an indigenous lens, empasizing the importance of knowing where their food comes from. Mr. Bratvold teaches Anishinaabe and U.S history and the Ojibwe language at Red Lake Nation College. September 2017.
