Deweese Wolfe, 73, shared this bedroom for decades with his wife, Elsie Louise Wolfe. After she passed away he began sleeping in a different room. Wolfe built the house and he built the wooden frames that cover the bed. Pictures of his children and a black and white portrait of his mother, Eva Awee Wolfe, who was a well-known basket weaver, rest on top of the cotton comforter.
Qualla Boundary, October 2016.
